We Are Not A Tea Company

When people meet a product they do not have a category for, they reach for the nearest one. Chelsea Jambo has spent a lot of energy declining the one people keep offering her.

We Are A Women’s Wellness Company

Chelsea Jambo quote card clarifying that Our Body is not a tea company but a women's wellness company.

“People saw the tea and they’re like, oh, you’re a tea company. And I’m like, no, we’re not a tea company, we’re a women’s wellness company.”

— Chelsea Jambo, Our Body

The distinction is not branding vanity. As she puts it, “a lot of people aren’t used to really focusing on one particular need of a woman, which is hormonal health, and understanding that the female body is complex.”

Accepting the easier label would have meant competing on flavour and price against companies solving a completely different problem.

It Is Not Really Taboo For Women

An illustration of an open, comfortable conversation between women about a topic others treat as awkward.

The most interesting thing Jambo has noticed is where the discomfort actually lives.

“it’s kind of come to the realization that it’s not really taboo for women, it’s taboo for men.”

— Chelsea Jambo

Her evidence is the conversations themselves: “we’re having these conversations behind closed doors. And often when we’re having these conversations woman to woman, it’s leaving us empowered, it’s leaving us feeling like we’re not alone.” If the effect of talking is that, she asks, “why is it taboo?”

Her conclusion is practical rather than combative — “we have a voice, we have a platform, we’re half the world’s population. Let’s talk about this, let’s start changing the narrative, and let’s provide other women with education.”

Refusing The Easier Category

Jambo is clear about the cost of holding the line. Early feedback questioned the whole premise: “There was a lot of pushback in terms of, is this even a profitable business, is this something that you can actually turn into a business?” She notes that much of that “did span from some men who just didn’t understand it.”

Her answer was not to argue the market into existence but to point at the need: “us women need something like this, need the support like this, because the female body is intense and navigating it is intense.”

She describes returning to the why as the thing that got her through: “with all these little challenges, it’s been helpful to recenter around why we’re doing this.”

Talking About Bodies Without Flinching

Ours rather than hers. If you write or sell in this space, the useful habit is to name the thing plainly the first time and then move on, rather than euphemising and forcing the reader to decode. Euphemism signals that you also find it awkward, which is precisely the thing Jambo is describing.

She points to the wider shift already underway — “more and more celebrities, more women with bigger platforms” talking openly, and specialists emerging around perimenopause and menopause specifically.
